But, surprisingly, in our 30–50-mph and 50–70-mph passing tests, the Lightning essentially ties the Rivian (0.1 second quicker in the former, and 0.1 second slower in the latter). ![]() The Rivian R1T is substantially quicker-nearly a second in the quarter-mile-and is still the quickest pickup we’ve ever tested. And a Mustang Mach 1 would have to be exceptionally well driven to open up the narrowest of gaps in the quarter. Even a Mach-E GT is no quicker in the quarter-mile. The performance of this first electric F-150 positively dominates any other in Ford's truck lineup, including the Raptor, by more than a second in either metric. Our test vehicle was a top-trim Platinum that includes the larger, 131.0-kWh battery pack, and, with a couple of minor options, wore a sticker price of $93,609. Nail the throttle from rest and 60 mph arrives in 4.0 seconds flat, on its way to a 12.7-second quarter-mile at 107 mph, just before it hits its 110-mph governed top speed. It's hard to imagine anyone not being blown away by the heroic shove of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning's two electric motors making a combined 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. It's also far quieter than other F-150s and more than 300 pounds lighter than a Rivian R1T, but the brakes faded significantly during our testing. It's far and away quicker than any other F-150, running neck and neck with a Mustang Mach 1 through the quarter-mile.We've just tested a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, a top Platinum trim with a $93,609 sticker price.Probably not any cheaper to drive a Hummer EV than it is a typical sized gas truck.įor those that don't need it to travel long distances or tow heavy loads on a regular basis, you'll absolutely love having made the change to an EV.Ģ022 Ford F-150 Lightning Is Even Quicker Than ExpectedĪt 4.0 seconds flat to 60 mph, Lightning is a very appropriate name. ![]() Thus, not only do you have longer charging times, charging costs go up quite a bit too. Ford is 320 miles for a 131 kWh battery, 2.44 miles per kWh. Charging time is a lot longer to fill up 200 kWh than it is a 131 kWh battery. The Hummer gets decent range, but has a 200 kWh battery to move it's 9,000 pounds around. The time to charge a battery that big is LONG. Even with a HUGE battery, towing a 53 foot loaded trailer, probably is knocking the range down to less than 100 miles. I think they've discovered how hard it is to get any range out of it when towing heavy loads. Tesla was supposed to release the Tesla Semi Truck years ago. Until then, for those that tow, we're still several years away from an EV that would be practical. If it has 100-150 miles of EV only range, will serve most people's daily driving needs and act like a regular ICE truck from those longer trips or trips you need to tow. This is where the Ram, if it comes with an ICE backup would be great. If you need to tow a lot and more than 40-50 miles, probably not your best choice. Unfortunately, now that we're getting into trucks, towing is a capability many truck owners want, but is not practical for EV's. Longer distance travel, each will have to decide on their own if the extra time is worth it? So far, have loved going all EV 9 years ago. 400 mile trips are probably my sweet spot as to what I'm willing to drive. Fortunately, trips that would require more than 6 hours of driving, I usually fly anyway. Lot better things I can do with 4 hours than sit at a charger. Don't want a 6 hour trip to take 8 hours, each way. Beyond that, the time involvement starts to become too much for my personal use. With my Tesla, I'm willing to do trips that require only one stop to charge. EV's are AMAZING for every day use and some light travelling needs. Most have said, it will cut range in half to tow any significant trailer. ![]()
